The 10th International Fine Art Festival “Traditions & Contemporaneity” will take place in the Moscow Exhibition Center “Manege” from the 26th to the 31st of May 2016. In anticipation of the festival, a press conference was organized in the press center TASS which included the intervention of the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Vera Kiseleva; the Head of the Department of Sculpture of the 20th century in the Tretyakov Gallery and Member of the International Jury of the festival, Ludmila Marts; President of the International Jury, People’s Artist of the USSR, Russia and Azerbaijan and Vice-President of Academy of Arts, Tahir Salakhov; art critic Sergey Khachaturov; Deputy Chairmans of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, Alexander Romanovich and Boris Frumkin; People’s Artist of Russian Federation, Artistic Director of the State Chamber Orchestra of jazz music, Oleg Lundstrem.
For 10 years already our festival has been bringing together artists from all over the world and introducing an international platform for communication between artists, collectors and critics.
This year for the first time in the existence of the festival more than 300 artists from 40 different countries will participate. After Moscow, the festival will move to Portugal. Moreover, we are still negotiating the participation of countries such as Angola and China. Thus, it will become one of the largest and most respected festivals in the world. In this jubilee year the organisers of the festival are planning to present 7 special projects: Formalism of the 21st century, Art of the Commonwealth of the Independent, Far and Near, Noble Cause, Hero-towns of the Great Patriotic War: Sebastopol, The Best, Unique dolls as a piece of art. The curator of the project "The Formalism of the 21st century" will be the art critic Sergey Khachaturov. "We stand for the overcoming of the old confrontation between contemporary and traditional art” - he said. “It is a reflection about what is form, as it is interpreted by the artists of the new generation ... In the project "The Formalism of the 21st century" we want to give an opportunity to the artist to speak in the first person; we want to accept responsibility for the creation of what the avant-garde of the 1920’s called the "finished thing". In many ways, this is an experimental platform and an attempt to understand ourselves.” The best Russian galleries will take part in the project "The Formalism of the XXI century": REGINA, FINE ART, ARTSTORY and others.
The famous fashion designer Vyacheslav Zaitsev will show his new collection and soloists of the Bolshoi Theatre will perform on the red carpet during the opening of the festival in "Manege" on the 26th of May. This year the festival will have a large collection of graphics of Robert Falk from the Gallery Mamontovy, and the NewOldArtGallery will present works by Anatoly Zverev, Ilya Kabakov, Ernst Neizvestny and other famous artists.
In the end of the festival the International Prize “VERA” will be awarded by the jury to the best participants of the festival. The main criteria for evaluation, according to the Chairman of the Jury, Tair Salakhov, are great artistry and the accomplishment of current creative objectives. This year the "VERA" Awards will introduce 19 nominations, including painting, sculpture, graphics, photography and applied arts. Two special prizes, "Modern Classic" and "Best exposition", will also be awarded. The "VERA" Awards will be held on the final day of the festival, on the 31st of May, in the Theater Hall of the Moscow International House.
