Moscow International Festival of Arts «Traditions and Contemporaneity»

In July, 4 - 8 in the Central Exhibition Hall "Manezh" one of the most large-scale events in Russian cultural life took place — the VI Moscow International Festival of Arts «Traditions and Contemporaneity» which united tendencies and directions in modern world art.

The VI Moscow Festival of Arts «Traditions and Contemporaneity» was under the aegis of UNESCO, with the support of Moscow Department of culture, Committee of the RF State Duma on culture, International Fund "World for Culture and Peace", Federal agency "Rosintercooperation", and Russian Academy of Arts.

In the list of participants of the event this year there were really sounding names – works of Mikhail Shemyakin, Ekaterina Grigoryeva, Gleb Bogomolov, Mischa Lenn, Alexander Grechanik, Andrey Esionov works, the Manizer dynasty, the Belykh dynasty, the Surovtsev dynasty, as well as works of Tahir Salakhov, Anatoly Shmuel Shelest, Zurab Tsereteli, Vyacheslav Zaitsev. Also among works of the known participants presented at the festival there were pictures of musician Andrey Makarevich, film director Vladimir Naumov and ballet master Vladimir Vasiliev.

The festival purpose — to open new names in modern art and to support gifted artists, not only known, but also beginning masters. For six years the festival has been drawing attention of artists, experts in the art sphere, collectors and gallery owners from 40 countries, has opened many new art names and collected more than 130 thousand visitors.

At the festival opening a press conference took place on which there were:

Vera Kiseleva - Curator of the festival, the President of the Moscow Public fund for culture support and contemporary art development, honorary member of the Russian academy of Arts;

Tahir Salakhov - the Chairman of the festival jury, national artist of the USSR, Russia and Azerbaijan, Hero of socialist work, winner of the State awards of the USSR and Azerbaijan, the vice-president of the Russian Academy of Arts;

Vladimir Naumov - National actor of the USSR, the president of the National academy of cinema arts and sciences, honorary member of the Russian academy of Arts, the vice-chairman of the jury, film director;

Vladimir Vasiliev - guest of the Festival, National actor of the USSR and Russia, professor of the Russian academy of theater;

Vladimir Kosenchuk - the general Director of the national educational TV channel "Prosveshcheniye", General information partner of the Festival;

Alexander Gerasimov - Marketing director of the iCore company, partner of the Festival.




 

«Our work doesn’t finish with the festival. By its results we try to advance art of gifted artists, placing their works in museums, galleries and collections of well-known people. Thus, the festival "grows up" new generation of young artists» — Tahir Salakhov, the chairman of the international jury, emphasized at the press conference.

Opening the exhibition Mikhail Shvydkoi, special representative of the RF President on international cultural cooperation, called the festival of arts a significant event: «In this hall fine recent artists of Russia, CIS countries and other countries have gathered. This festival proved its necessity, after all people live in the context of different arts. I hope that visitors will be delighted to meet fine, true art».


 
  

Also within the opening ceremony led by Yury Kovelenov, honored artist of Russia and TV host , welcoming speeches were made by Polad Bülbüloğlu, the Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Azerbaijan Republic in the Russian Federation, Tahir Salakhov, national artist of the USSR, Russia and Azerbaijan, Mark Leivikov, the Chairman of the Board of trustees at the Moscow Public Fund of culture support and contemporary art development, Anton Malyshev,  Assistant to the plenipotentiary of the RF President in the Central federal district, Doret Golender, ambassador of Israel in Russia, and the main organizer of the Festival Vera Kiseleva.

The VI Moscow International Festival of Arts «Traditions and Contemporaneity» was visited by known cultural figures such as: honorary member of the festival jury, the President of the Russian Academy of Arts, National artist of the USSR, the Russian Federation, Georgian SSR Zurab Tsereteli; National actress of Russia Leah Akhedzhakova; National actor of Russia Yury Antonov; National actor of Russia Andrey Makarevich; musician Evgeny Margulis; representatives of political elite and business community in the face of the State secretary of the Union State Grigory Rapota, and also representatives of embassies and cultural centers of the world countries: American center, British Council, French cultural center, Cervantes Institute, Italian Institute of culture, Polish Institute of culture, Slovak institute of culture, Bulgarian cultural center, Cultural, scientific and information center of the Hungarian Republic, German cultural center by Goethe, Israeli cultural center at embassy of the state of Israel in Moscow, and Scottish Cultural Center in Moscow.

The VI Moscow International festival of arts «Traditions and Contemporaneity» showed a wide palette of painting and arts and crafts, opened actual tendencies of graphics and the photo, showed works of jewelry masters, sculptors and architects, and presented the newest development of museum experts. By the festival results its main award - a bronze figurine "Vera" symbolizing belief in creativity, love and success - will be handed over to the winners. Rewarding on 28 nominations will take place in a solemn ceremony on July, 10 at 18.00 in Et Cetera Theater (Frolov Lane, 2) and will be broadcast by Prosveshcheniye TV channel on July, 14 at 19.20. The ceremony will be led by Dmitry Kharatyan, national actor of Russia, and Inna Malikova, singer, actress, and producer.
